Happy Friday, everyone. I hope it’s a good one!
I was sitting at a conference table on Wednesday afternoon in the middle of a real estate closing. My client’s mortgage representative made a statement that lingered with me for quite some time: “Sometimes, you just have to say ‘yes.’ Shake a man’s hand. You know, make a deal.” He was speaking about interest rate fluctuations, the secondary mortgage market, minimum liquidity requirements; about how the longer you wait for that “better rate” or that “better deal,” you miss out on (what could be) your best opportunity. As I sat across from him at that chestnut-colored table, analyzing his message through the glare of a late afternoon sun, I took his statement to express a message which was far more meaningful – a message…

I’m not sure if you have a Bahama Breeze in your part of the world, but this is our new favorite spot. The Caribbean vibe is just so fun. This past Friday, we arrived through the double doors to a live entertainer performing reggae tunes and, to our luck, a fun promotion called “Viva La Rita.” When you order a margarita, you receive two gold coins with which you can play a game of cornhole – right in the middle of the restaurant. We received two bean bags for the game and, after a few mojitos and margaritas, we, naturally, missed the hole. Not even remotely close. But after exchanging a few more laughs between ourselves (and with the staff who offered their sympathetic, sweet,…

Has anyone ever told you that you can’t do something? That you can’t be something? That you shouldn’t chase your dreams or reach for the moon or glide amongst the stars? Well, don’t listen to them. As the saying goes, you can do anything if you set your mind to it. Okay, sure. All of the brain power in the world can’t grant us the ability to fly or the strength to move mountains. But there is a lot of truth to that statement. Yes, the world really does lie at your fingertips and dreams are reachable, no matter how unreachable they may seem. What do you want to be when you grow up? Do you remember being asked that as a child?…

Valentine’s Day or Saint Valentine’s Day … whatever your preference is: a holiday commemorated on the 14th of every February to celebrate love; a totality of love for our family, friends and our “sweethearts,” whom Cupid brought together with his piercing arrow of affection. There is no doubt that I love this day. Perhaps it is my love for heart-shaped everything, my adoration of the pink and red color spectrum, or, to the detriment of my waist size, my unwavering love for chocolate. Perhaps it is my love for love and the opportunity to partake in a holiday that celebrates just that. Perhaps it is all of these things combined, but nevertheless, I love Valentine’s Day. Even before I had a “Valentine,” I would…

Oh, I am a sucker for a good quote. To me, quotes represent wisdom past, the whisper of a brilliant mind from a distant place, a reminder that words last forever … far after we are gone. A majority of my favorite quotes are from my favorite literary works. I established quite the collection during my studies as an English major. I would often underline, fold over, tab, highlight (you name it) my favorite passages in my favorite books – Hence why I find the transition into electronic books so unbearably difficult. Here is a list of just a few of my favorites. Do you have a favorite quote? What does it mean to you?

Do you consider yourself to be a planner? Or are you more of a spontaneous, go-with-the-flow kind of person? Well, I, for one have always preferred to plan things out. I just like the unwavering quality behind it; the security of having things set and ready to go. Consistent with this topic, I must mention my love for to-do lists. Ahh, to-do lists – the epitome of organized planning. They provide instant organization to the sometimes unorganizable aspects of life. Moreover, crossing things off of the to-do list? That just provides me with an insurmountable amount of glee. Food Shopping – Check. Send important email – Check. Pick up dry cleaning – Check. I may even add a meaningless item to the list, just…
When is the last time you laughed? I mean really laughed – to the point where your stomach hurt, your eyes teared and you couldn’t breathe? It feels good, doesn’t it? Laughing like that reminds me of my cousin, Leyla, who moved to Wyoming about five years ago. No matter what the occasion, we would always find a reason to join together in a roar of laughter. I’m almost certain that we found the work “fork”’ ragingly funny at one point and, mind you, this was during our pre-wine days. Anyway, those who really know me understand that I love to laugh. If you had a chance to read my post on “Normalcy,” you would know that I have a high pitched one (laugh,…
