A couple that makes mantles together, stays together? No, really. I think that’s a thing. It took us three full weekends, various lengths of pine board slabs, white paint, and a lot of love and patience to complete our biggest DIY project to date. I came across this post on Pursuit of Handyness’ blog which led me to Ana White’s plans found here. We are so proud of the finished product.
Hashtag, feeling crafty.

Thank you! The funny part is, our initial motivation for this project was the fact that our first choice apartment didn’t have a fireplace. We thought this would be a unique add to a plain, carpeted living room. As it turns out, we ended up switching our choice of apartments before we signed the lease (hence, my last post on “Change”). Drum roll …. we found out our new apartment has a fireplace! – but with no mantle. We figured that this would serve as a perfect decorative piece 🙂

The decor experts say that every room needs a focal point. You have built yourself a mantle that makes your fireplace a lovely focal point, which makes the room 🙂

Thank you! It will really serve its purpose once we hang a few stockings over it during the holiday season 😉

Thank you and my pleasure! I was drawn to the “DIY” theme of your blog which resonated with me after this project. Congratulations on home ownership. That is such an accomplishment 🙂

Ah, thank you! Don’t be fooled, though. The polished look is a result of many, many coats of paint and reapplications of batched coats. It took time to get it right, but the end result was worth it. I’m so glad you like it!
